U13 Program Information for 2024-25 Season
Hello Hockey Parents!
Welcome to the 2024-2025 U13 hockey season. My name is Stephanie Belisle, your U13 Director this season, alongside my Assistant Director Aniko Cole. We are looking forward to a great season with our players and parents. Just a few important things to touch base on.
Get into Gear Camp
This is a great way to get our skaters and goalies back onto the ice before shinny and evaluations.
The camps run August 5-9 or August 12-16 (second week is already full) at Millwoods Rec Arena from 20:30-21:30. Fees are:
- Player $75
- Goalie $50
For more information and registration, please check out the August Get Into Gear Camp page.
Shinny
Shinny will happen the week of Aug 19 – 26. There is a cost of $10 per ice slot and each player can pick up to 3 slots. For ice times and registration, please head over to U13 Shinny.
This is a good way to get the players back on the ice and as of Aug 4, there is still available space to sign up for shinny ice so register now.
Each of the Shinny slots will also require Volunteers, which can count towards your volunteer commitment hours. You can sign up on TeamSnap once you register. Each slot will show up in your TeamSnap in “My Teams” Tab.
Evaluations
U13 players will participate in the following evaluation skates:
- 1 Time Trial Skate
- 3 Evaluation Games
Once the time trial skate has been completed players will be assigned an evaluation skate time/date. As these evaluation games are close together please monitor your email and TeamSnap calendar for updates as they will be provided with short notice.
Skate times will be communicated to parents via TeamSnap and/or email.
Please note that due to the number of players being evaluated, we will not be able to accommodate any changes to assigned ice times. If you choose to miss a time trial/evaluation game your player is subject to tier placement by the director.
For evaluation dates and times, please visit Evaluations U13.
This year we have hired an external company to do all the evaluations for both players and goalies. This means we only need check in volunteers.
Coaching
A list of head coaches and assistant coaches has been compiled based on input from the registration process. If you volunteered as a coach, your name has been added to my list of potential candidates and you will be contacted in the coming weeks requesting confirmation that you still wish to participate.
All coaches and assistants are required to undergo a Criminal Records Check through the Edmonton Police Service, and to obtain all qualifications, certifications or education as set out by Hockey Alberta. All bench staff must complete the Coaches Respect-In-Sport course, which can be completed online at any time in preparation for this upcoming season. For full details, please read through the Coach Certification Requirements.
The final decision regarding coaches will be made during the evaluations and prior to teams being formed. Head coaches will be selected based on their experience and participation in the evaluation process (on or off ice), which not only demonstrates their commitment, but allows for early involvement in player development. Being able to view players firsthand in the evaluation process can offer potential coaches an advantage in assessing and understanding the skills and areas of development for his/her team going into the season.
If you wish to be added as a potential head coach or assistant coach, feel free to send us an email. As a head coach you will also have to fill out an application form. Please follow through the Head Coach Application to apply.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you,
Stephanie Belisle
