Goalie Equipment Program

Overview

Millwoods Hockey is committed to developing players at every position on the ice and is pleased to be able to continue to provide a goalie equipment sign-out program for our U9-U13 age categories at no upfront cost to families. We recognize the cost of the goaltender position can be a barrier for families, especially for children just looking to give it a shot and see if they are interested in maybe playing full time. This program allows those prospective goalies to try playing the position using association equipment while they play with Millwoods Hockey.

Program Details

U9

Each team will be provided with 2 sets of gear and 1 gear bag. Each bag will contain the following:

  • 2 sets of legs pads (one set of 22" and one set of 24")
  • 2 Chest protectors (One Large/X-Large and one Small/Medium)
  • 2 Catching gloves
  • 2 Blockers
  • 2 sets of knee pads
  • 2 Goalie sticks
  • 1 Equipment Bag

Due to the nature of the goaltending position at the U9 age category where all players are encouraged to give goaltending a try the gear provided is intended to fit MOST players. In the event that a child needs larger or smaller gear, or a set of right handed glove/blocker please contact the goaltending equipment director to make arrangements.

If players on your team have their own gear they would like to wear, they are more than welcome to do so as long as it conforms to Hockey Canada rules and regulations for equipment and is CSA approved. This gear should only be used for team sanctioned, on-ice activities.

Please note: a deposit of $500 dollars is required when coaches pick up their team gear. This ensures that the equipment is returned and in good order at the end of the season. Regular wear and tear is covered so please ensure that players are well informed and taking good care of the equipment when their turn to play goal comes around. If an issue arises with your equipment at any time please reach out to the goaltending equipment director to have the problem addressed as soon as possible.

U11 - U13

The purpose of this program is to provide the most necessary equipment to players so that they can get a feel for the position before parents commit to purchasing some of the more expensive pieces of gear. Millwoods Hockey will provide the following gear for use during on-ice, association sanctioned activities:

  • Leg pads
  • Chest Protector
  • Catching Glove / Trapper
  • Blocker

Millwoods Hockey will host a goalie equipment sign-out event prior to evaluations starting for players registered to play this season. Stay tuned and watch the website and your email inbox for event information.

Please note: A deposit of $350 is required at time of equipment pick-up. This ensures that the gear is returned and in good order at the end of the season. If any issues arise with your gear while in your possession, please reach out to the goalie equipment director to have the problem addressed as soon as possible.

We carry a variety of brands and sizes that have allowed us to outfit most of our players without issue. That being said, the amount of gear that we have loaned out on a year to year basis is limited and is therefore subject to availability on a first come, first served basis.

Note: We carry a LIMITED supply of full right gear (for left handed players) available on a first come first serve basis.

Millwoods hockey does NOT loan out the following goaltender gear, and must be supplied by player families:

  • Goalie masks and throat protectors (aka danglers)
  • Goalie sticks
  • Knee Pads (for use under the leg pads)
  • Goalie apron-style neck guards
  • Goalie pants
  • Goalie skates
  • Equipment bags

Please note that for the gear mentioned above it is acceptable for goaltenders to continue to wear player equipment they would have used as a player, as long as it is CSA approved. For example, in U9 players do not require a goalie mask and can use a player helmet with a cage. As goalies progress from U9 up to older age categories, or higher tiers, where the shots become progressively harder and faster, they will want to look at picking up goalie specific gear that is designed for taking shots and provides improved protection. It is encouraged for goaltenders to be outfitted with gear that makes them feel as safe and comfortable as possible at the level in which they play.
