Congratulations to 2023-24 Edmonton City Champions MW401
Congratulations to MW401 Edmonton City Champs!
The journey to the top is finally complete for MW401.
After starting the season at 2-3-1 and being slated to drop to the green division of tier 1. I had them moved up to blue to challenge them as players. It was a marathon 41 games since that point and there were struggles at the beginning, but had a good 3rd place showing in Red Deer, and you could see the spark being lit.
All of the breaks in the season were filled with tournaments, coming home from Beaumont and Calgary with silver medals only losing to teams in the red division. Sneak in another silver in Minor Hockey Week, needing to battle the top 4 teams in our group, only to lose to the #1 ranked Hawks team 1-0 in final minutes. Finishing off the regular season in 7th place, but holding the 2nd best goal differential we knew we were close.
These boys went 4-0 in the round robin only giving up 4 goals total to 4 teams ranked higher including one that came down from red for the playoffs.
In a clash of the titans style semi final battle with NS401, that saw 3 lead changes and some late heroics to force overtime and come out with the W and booked our ticket for a rematch with the Hawks. Another battle that will be remembered for years, saw 2 lead changes, and another overtime with revenge being served.
I just hope that these boys got as much from us coaches as we got from them, and they know how proud we are as coaches and parents.
The lifetime of memories they created, with the laughs and tears along the way, will be cherished.
Congrats boys, you’ve earned everything you have achieved this season.
