Goaltender Evaluation Sessions

The Goaltender Evaluation process is now going to comprise of a skill session followed by a number of game evaluations depending on the category.

SKILL SESSION

The First Part of the Skill Session will consist of two drills measuring their skating, agility and mobility skills. Please have a look at the image below for more details. Also check out the animated versions of the drill to get a better sense of how the drill be conducted.

Iron Cross Drill is a timed event used to determine the goaltender's mobility.

The Iron Cross is a timed drill demonstrating two skills. The forward and backward portions are performed using c-cuts, then a shuffle to go sideways in both directions.
The goaltender is then allowed to rest while another attempts the drill.
The second drill is done exactly the same pattern but this time uses a butterfly slide to go sideways in both directions.
(Based on standardized circle width of 30 feet, if circle is not standard size, then mark off 30 feet distance both vertically and horizontally).

Goaltender Agility Drill is a timed event used to determine the goaltender's ability to move side to side and up and down.

- Goalie (A) starts in middle of net along goal line. Clock starts on signal.
- On signal, A T-Pushes to square up to Right Post (RP), then sculls out towards 1; drops to butterfly and stops puck.
- A then returns to feet, moves to middle; drops to butterfly and stops puck from 2.
- A then repeats the pattern with 3.
- A returns to feet and sculls back to Left Post (LP)
- A T-Pushes back to middle of net along goal line.
- Repeats pattern in the opposite direction.
- Clock stops when A moves to middle of crease in set position.

The Second Part of the Session is designed to showcase the goaltender's save skills.

3 on 3 HALF ICE GAMES
Each goaltender will participate a number of time in 3 on 3 Half Ice games that will highlight the save skills of each goaltender with multiple shots from players in their category and rebound save opportuinties through the course of real game situations. Evaluators will be focusing on the goaltender's crease management before, during and after a shot on net.

The Evaluators will be scoring the goaltender's ability in four areas:

  1. pre-save set-up
  2. save choice
  3. rebound control
  4. post save recovery
