Pee Wee Skater Compete Session

The COMPETE sessions give players an opportunity during in-tight competitions to showcase their strengths and weaknesses more quickly than a scrimmage style of evaluation. During a game, players can tend to hide or blend in when on the ice with 11 other players. With this style of competition, all players will be seen by the Evaluators and given a fair chance to display their talents.

Compete 1 v 1

1 on 1 Compete Evaluation Session

STATION 1 - Triple 1v1 - F on D
The Drill:
- Coach has pucks at blue line in centre of ice.
- Three F's line up as shown with F1 at blueline; F2 at half wall and F3 in the corner.
- D begins in slot and reacts to close the gap and then defend the F who is passed the puck by the Coach to begin drill.
- F's try to score one at a time.
- D has to go back to slot before closing the gap on the next F.

What it evaluates:
- Forward's ability to compete 1 on 1 with a Defenseman
- Defenseman's ability to protect the net from a scoring chance.
- Evaluators will be looking for agility, puck control, shot choices and scoring ability.

STATION 2 - Basic 1 v 1 - F on D
The Drill:
- F1 begins by skating around pylon by red line then back  towards blue line making a pass to F2; goes around pylon at blueline getting a return pass from F2. F1 then continues down ice to try to score on the D.
- D leaves at the same time as F1 skating backwards to pylon at blueline; pivoting to forward to pylon at red line; then pivoting again to backwards and defending against F1 coming down.

Drill sets up similar on the opposite side of the ice. Those players will go when the opposite side pairing is finished.

After each time, players switch sides of the ice so they are evaluated from both sides of the ice.

What it evaluates:
- Basic 1 v1 skills for both Forward and Defenseman.
- Passing ability by Forwards. Can they "lead" a player with a pass.
- Does the Defenseman maintain a good gap with the oncoming forward by keeping within 2 stick lengths and matching speed, or does the Defenseman "sit" at the blueline and wait for the Forward.

Goaltenders are not evaluated during this session.
